Labels Influenced by the California Coast

The Ballast Point Brewery in San Diego has roots dating back to 1996 when a group of friends decided to take their combined passion for beer and turn it into something more. What began as a home brewing effort became a clear and lasting dedication to finding just the right combination of flavors, ingredients, and aroma. As time went on, these efforts became what is known today at Ballast Point Brewery. Ballast Point Special was the first batch ever sold in 1996 and by 1999 the team was hand-labeling more packages than they could possibly ship out. The award-winning Sculpin IPA hit the market in 2005 much to the delight of San Diego locals, and in 2006 the production took a turn for the big time with the opening of a full production brewery in Scripps Ranch. This is one of the best San Diego weekend activities.

Beyond the Brew

In 2013, the team behind Ballast Point Brewery decided that their brew deserved a savory counterpart, and in light of this revelation, opened a kitchen and brewery in the heart of San Diego's Little Italy. By 2017, Ballast Point Brewery's reputation had outgrown the limits of the West Coast and the team was excited to announce the opening of a restaurant and brewery in Daleville, Virginia. 2018 would see momentum taking a third opening to Chicago; however, despite the expansion, Ballast Point Brewery is still well-loved today for its San Diego roots. Guests can always enjoy the newest brews and on-tap selections by visiting the Little Italy location and combining a tasting session with small plate options as well. No matter when you arrive it's sure to be a savory adventure!

Craft and Commerce

Craft and Commerce

All my craft cocktail lovers...this is for you! Unequivocally equal parts restaurant and conversational destination, its unique aesthetic resembles that of a dimly-lit, industrial literary cabin with hundreds of hardbound classic novels stacked on ceiling-high bookshelves. Not for the faint of heart, Craft and Commerce in San Diego has century-old taxidermy that is mounted and displayed throughout the restaurant. Having collaborated with San Diego`s Natural History Museum, guests are greeted by a dramatic grassland scene of a lion preying over a warthog displayed above the taps at the main bar-while the heads and antlers of leviathan beasts are mounted on the tarnished wood-flanked walls, taunting diners with primal realism as they engulf their carnivorous fare. ...
