Where to Stay for San Diego College Visits: UCSD, SDSU & USD

Whether it's family weekend, a campus tour, or just checking on your student, a college visit to San Diego deserves better than a cramped hotel room. My SD Rental's 31 vacation rentals across Downtown, Bankers Hill, and Little Italy give your family a central base — full kitchen, living space, laundry — with all three universities an easy drive away.

Fall 2026 family weekends:

  • UC San Diego Family Weekend — Friday, October 16, 2026. Multi-day weekend with Triton Fam-Fest on RIMAC Field and a men's soccer game (free ticket with registration). Campus: 9500 Gilman Dr, La Jolla.
  • University of San Diego Homecoming & Family Weekend — October 16–18, 2026. Includes "Evening Under the Stars" on Friday, October 16. Campus: 5998 Alcalá Park. (USD's spring family weekend dates are TBA.)
  • San Diego State Family Weekend — the 29th annual just wrapped (October 2–3, 2026). Campus: 5500 Campanile Dr. Planning ahead for next year? Book early — family weekend compresses the whole College Area.
  • Bonus: UCSD Homecoming — men's basketball vs. Fresno State at LionTree Arena, Saturday, November 7, 2026.

Why a central apartment beats a hotel for parents' weekend: a 2-bedroom gives everyone actual space after a day of campus events; a full kitchen means breakfast before the 9 AM info session and leftovers after the expensive campus-town dinner; in-unit laundry handles the "Mom, can you wash this?" bag your student hands you at hello. Most of our apartments and lofts include in-unit laundry, a dedicated workspace, parking, and utilities in the rate. (Note: our cottages don't have dedicated parking, but include everything else — and dogs are welcome at our cottages, if the family dog is making the trip.)

Visiting outside family weekend? Our central neighborhoods sit between the campuses and the city — tour UCSD in the morning, hit the beach in the afternoon, and be back in Little Italy for dinner.
